In the beginning there was Eru, also known as Iluvatar. First of all, he created the Ainur, and gave to them many great works. The Ainur delighted in these works, and engaged in discussion, and in the discussion a harmony arose and gave glory to Eru. Yet it came into the heart of the one known as the Dark Enemy to take control of the discussion, by raising his voice. Many were dismayed by this and stopped their part in the discussion, for the works of the Dark Enemy brought discord and his deliverances were but the same brash utterings repeated. Then Eru arose again and said "know that I am displeased by this, for the works I gave were good and your utterances displeasing. But still my works will be done through your hands." And he stopped the discussion and said "Newgroup! Let it be!" And it was.
Many of the Ainur, both Vala and Maia descended into the land known as Usenet to create the group that all had seen in the discussion, yet when they arrived they saw that it was incomplete, and the discussion was not only the making of the newsgroup, but also its history. Therefore, the Ainur set about creating the group out of the stuff of Usenet, but envy gnawed at the heart of the Dark Enemy, and he desired the newsgroup for himself and in his darkest deed, he summoned beings from the land of Bar-en Dagor-Ruin. Yet he knew not the full extent of the powers he unleashed, for the beings from that land are quick to anger, and treacherous to control. Even the Dark Enemy could not harness them, and for a while it seemed that the newsgroup would be lost.
It was at this time that the beings known as the Teuncers began to awake, under the light of the stars in the land known as Alfantol. As they awoke, they began to join together to make music and give words to the things they saw. It is said that more than are known about may have risen at that time, but the beings from Bar-en Dagor-Ruin devoured them before they were fully awake.
News of this came swiftly to Manwe, and for a while the Valar were locked in debate, for some were of the opinion that the Teuncers should stay in the land of Alfantol, and should drive out the forces summoned by the Dark Enemy by their own efforts and should find their way without the interference of the Valar. Yet others, including Manwe, felt that the land of Alfantol was too perilous and a home should be created for them, so that they may live in harmony with the Valar for ever. And so it was decided, that Ulmo should journey to Alfantol, and summon the Teuncers to the land of Egroups, where a haven from the Dark Enemy may be constructed. So it was that the great migration of the Teuncers took place, a time remembered by but a few of the Teuncers still active in the world, and they came to the land of Egroups and there built the eternal haven, Castle Hare.
For a long time, they stayed within the boundaries of their new home, and did not venture back. Yet still there was discontent, for the stories of those lost weighed heavy on their hearts, and none knew the precise number that had awoke in the beginning. Finally, Rabbyt came before the assembled company and spoke to them. "Why, oh people", she cried, "why should we stay within these walls? For we all know we may not be the only members of our own kind. How many more have we left behind? For the land of Alfantol, place of our birth, is in despair, and it is illuminated only by flame. Let us return there, and reclaim what was once ours, or at least hinder the Dark Enemy." Many words she spoke that were not recorded, but those words cut to the heart of all that listened, and quickened their souls for the return.
And so it was with a sense of joy, but also a sense of forboding, that the Teuncers made the first trip back across the electronic sea to the land of Alfantol. They did not stay solely in their birthplace, but journeyed backwards and forwards, staying in both lands with Castle Hare as a haven. The battle against the forces of Bar-en Dagor-Ruin was hard fought, but eventually the Teuncers with those that would side with them drove them back to the land that they had come from.
Yet as the Valar warned, the battle may never be won until Iluvatar rises again and proclaims the greatest work. The forces summoned by the Dark Enemy are not easily banished, and their influence lives on even when they are not visible. Yet the Teuncers still remain at once both in Castle Hare and in Alfantol, for though the haven they constructed is their home, their hearts return always to the land of Alfantol, the land where they awoke, the land where they took their first breath under the light of the stars.
